Pacific and Asian Affairs Council records, 1953-1988 1953-1980.

The Pacific and Asian Affairs Council records consist of two portions coming in different accessions to the University Library. The bulk of the records came to the University Library directly from the Pacfic and Asian Affairs Council in December 1995. This accession came under the direction of Dr. Dian Peters-Nguyen, Executive Director of PAAC and was accompanied by a hand written list of folder topics. A small portion of the records came as part of the records of the Institute of Pacific Relations and were filed as continuation of the records of the Honolulu Branch of IPR, in boxes D-17 through D-20. After the arrival of the bulk of the PAAC records, the archivist determined that the records of the early years of PAAC included in the IPR records should be separated from the IPR records and incorporated into the PAAC records. They are now Boxes A-1 through A-4. The hand-written folder list has now been superceded by an inventory prepared by Dr. Paul Hooper, emeritus professor of American Studies at the University of Hawaii, in 2010. The records consist of some annual reports, minutes of the Board of Governors and of the Executive Committee, correspondence, annual programs for the high schools of Hawaii, lists of East West Center scholars and University of Hawaii professors who provided resources for the high school programs, and budget information.
